Pivot or hinged?
A hinged door swings on hinges fixed to the side of the frame. It is familiar, reliable and suits most openings.
A pivot door rotates on a pin set into the floor and the head of the frame, usually a little in from the edge. Because the weight rests on the floor pivot rather than on side hinges, pivot doors can be far taller, wider and heavier — and they swing open with a satisfying, effortless motion. For a grand entrance with a generous opening, nothing makes a stronger statement.
Choosing the material and finish
Natural veneer
Thin slices of real timber on a stable core. Veneers can be book-matched or arranged in patterns — such as a radiating sunburst — that would be impossible in solid wood, and they stay flat and stable in humidity.
Lacquer
A high-gloss or matte lacquer finish gives a sleek, contemporary look in any colour. Deep black or rich oxblood red panel doors with brass hardware are classic choices with real presence.
Metal and jali
CNC-cut metal jali panels combine security, ventilation and pattern, and pair beautifully with tall brass pull handles. Metal fins and inlays add a sculptural, architectural edge.
Solid timber
Solid wood is ideal for frames and for carved or deeply profiled panels, provided it is well seasoned and properly sealed.

- UV-stable finishes if the door faces direct sun.
Security and hardware
A beautiful door must also be a secure one. Specify a solid core, a strong frame and multi-point or digital locking. Choose hardware — handles, pulls, hinges and pivots — rated for the door's weight, and in a finish that complements the rest of your home. Hardware is the part of the door you touch every day, so it deserves as much attention as the design.
Proportion matters as much as material: a door should feel generous for its opening, never squeezed.
Think about the whole entrance
The door works together with its frame, the surrounding wall, the lighting and the flooring. An arched surround, a textured wall finish or a band of millwork can turn a good door into an unforgettable entrance.
